DOJ charges Butler, Pennsylvania, man over threat to kill Trump – Washington Examiner

A man from Butler, Pennsylvania, named Shawn Monper, has been arrested and charged by the Department of Justice for making threats to kill president Trump, Elon Musk, Immigration and customs Enforcement agents, and other high-ranking U.S. officials.Monper, 32, was taken into custody on April 9 following an examination by the FBI and local police, which revealed threatening comments made on his YouTube account, “Mr. Satan,” from January to April. He allegedly expressed intentions to use firearms and suggested violent actions against various targets, including stating he had acquired guns and ammunition. Attorney General Pam Bondi commended the agencies involved for their swift response to prevent potential violence. Monper is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 14.


DOJ charges Butler, Pennsylvania, man over threat to kill Trump and other officials

The Department of Justice arrested and charged a Butler, Pennsylvania, man on charges of threatening to kill President Donald Trump, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, and other high-ranking U.S. officials.

Shawn Monper, 32, was arrested on April 9 through the joint efforts of the FBI and Butler Township Police Department over a series of comments posted on YouTube threatening to kill the president. 

“I want to applaud the outstanding and courageous investigative work of the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department, who thankfully identified and apprehended this individual before he could carry out his threats against President Trump’s life and the lives of other innocent Americans,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said. “Rest assured that whenever and wherever threats of assassination or mass violence occur, this Department of Justice will find, arrest, and prosecute the suspect to the fullest extent of the law and seek the maximum appropriate punishment.”

Monper is accused of making the threats from a YouTube account named “Mr. Satan” from Jan. 15 and April 5. The federal investigation found that the internet activity associated with Mr. Satan corresponded with Monper’s residence in Butler. 

In February, Mr. Satan commented, “I have bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump got in office.”

Officials found that Monper obtained a firearms permit shortly after Trump’s inauguration.

“Nah, we just need to start killing people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way,” he wrote on Feb. 17. “Remember, we are the majority, MAGA is a minority of the country, and by the time its time to make the move, they will be weakened, many will be crushed by these policies, and they will want revenge too. American Revolution 2.0.”

On March 4, Mr. Satan commented on a YouTube video titled “Live: Trump’s address to Congress” with the threat, “im going to assassinate him myself.”

On March 18 he commented, “ICE are terrorist people, we need to start killing them.”

On April 1, Mr. Satan commented, “If I see an armed ice agent, I will consider it a domestic terrorist, and an active shooter and open fire on them.”

Monper will appear before a preliminary hearing on April 14.

On July 13, 2024, President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler. The gunman was killed on the scene after killing one audience member and critically injuring two others.
