Donald Trump arrest: Who is defending the former president?

Former US President Donald Trump has been arrested and charged with 34 counts of business fraud in a Manhattan court. Trump has assembled a legal team to defend him in the case which includes three attorneys: Todd Blanche, Susan Necheles, and Joe Tacopina. Let’s take a look at each member of his legal defense team.

1. Todd Blanche

Todd Blanche is a leading white-collar criminal defense lawyer and former federal prosecutor. Blanche, who has been hired as Trump’s lead counsel in the case, represented Paul Manafort, a former campaign chairman for Trump who had faced similar charges. Blanche was able to successfully employ a double jeopardy argument in the Manafort case to get the judge to drop mortgage fraud and other related charges against him.

2. Susan Necheles

Susan Necheles is an “outstanding defense lawyer” who has represented high-profile clients, including Trump’s Organisation in a tax fraud case. Chambers USA, the “gold-standard” of attorney ratings, praised her as capable of “rabbit-out-of-the-hat results.” She has also previously gained media attention for representing a convicted Mafia underboss.

3. Joe Tacopina

Joe Tacopina first represented Donald Trump in a civil case against columnist E. Jean Carroll’s sexual assault lawsuit. The Brooklyn-born attorney has represented a host of high-profile clients, including several baseball players, New York police officers, and celebrities. However, Tacopina has become controversial due to his frequent media appearances. Critics have labelled him a “loudmouth” and “ such a frickin’ idiot”. Tacopina has defended himself against the criticism, saying that his results speak for themselves.
