Donald Trump indicted: Bragg tells House GOP to cease ‘unlawful political interference’ in case
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office has issued a scathing reaction to House Republicans who demanded information on the case against former President Donald Trump, stating that they must cease “unlawful political interference” in the matter.
The letter was sent by Bragg’s general counsel Leslie Dubeck in response to the three House committee chairmen who insisted that Bragg’s office provide testimony on its investigation into the former president, which resulted in charges filed on Thursday.
Dubeck wrote that “like any other defendant, Mr. Trump is entitled to challenge these charges in court and avail himself of all processes and protections that New York State’s robust criminal procedure affords…What neither Mr. Trump nor Congress may do is interfere with the ordinary course of proceedings in New York State.”
The letter was directed to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), and House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI).
Last week, Bragg informed the three Republicans that he would be unable to provide testimony about the inquiry, citing the confidentiality of the investigation’s findings under state law. However, the lawmakers have rejected these assertions thus far.
