Donald Trump indicted: Capitol Police prepare for protests over indictment
The United States Capitol Police are prepared for potential protests that could arise in response to the indictment of former President Donald Trump. According to a letter addressed to Senate staff, the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms and USCP expect demonstrations around the country, but they stated that no credible threats had been made. In response, law enforcement authorities are increasing their presence at the Capitol.
The letter also stated, “The Sergeant at Arms and United States Capitol Police (USCP) anticipate demonstration activity across the country related to the indictment of former President Trump… USCP is working with law enforcement partners, so you may observe a greater law enforcement presence on Capitol Hill.” The NYPD is also making similar preparations, having ordered officers to show up in full uniform on Friday in anticipation of potential unrest.
Trump was indicted by a Manhattan Grand Jury on Thursday as part of an investigation into hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels.
