DeSantis criticizes ‘politicization’ of Trump’s indictment.

Gov. Ron DeSantis Reacts to‌ Trump’s Indictment: “Criminalization of Politics”

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) responded to former President Donald Trump’s latest indictment,⁤ labeling it as an example of the “criminalization of politics.”

Three Key Revelations ⁣from the Georgia Indictment of Donald Trump

Trump, along with 18⁤ other defendants, was‌ indicted on⁣ Monday evening for their involvement in attempts to ⁤overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. The‍ charges were filed under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO).

In a similar⁣ vein to‍ his previous reactions to Trump’s indictments, Gov. DeSantis echoed Sen. Tim Scott’s denunciation of the⁣ indictment, emphasizing his commitment to ⁢ending the weaponization of federal agencies like the DOJ ‌and⁣ FBI if elected in 2024.

“We’ll have‍ a new⁤ director. We will have new leadership‍ in the DOJ. We’re going⁣ to⁤ make sure that there’s ⁢a single standard of justice‍ in‍ this country,” he asserted during a press call with⁣ New England reporters.

Gov. DeSantis ‍highlighted that the RICO statute, under which Trump is⁣ being charged,‌ was originally intended to combat organized ‌crime rather than political ⁤activities.

According‍ to Gov. DeSantis, Atlanta is⁤ allocating an ‌excessive amount of resources to pursue the ⁣contestation of the 2020 election.

While acknowledging the allocation of resources in ‌Trump’s⁣ case, he pointed out that “Atlanta has⁤ significant crime issues ⁢at present. The approach to crime ⁣has been far from rigorous, and there⁤ have been instances where criminals who should have been detained were released.”

Neither Gov. DeSantis nor ⁣Sen. Scott⁢ provided statements on the indictment when initially asked on Monday evening. However, they responded ‌early on Tuesday. Former Vice President Mike Pence and former U.S. ⁣Ambassador to the‌ United Nations Nikki Haley, both prominent candidates, have yet to address⁢ the⁢ new ‌indictment.

However, Vivek⁣ Ramaswamy preemptively denounced the indictment on Monday afternoon, describing it as “politicized persecutions through prosecution” during a town⁣ hall event with NewsNation on Monday night.
