Hawley criticizes Democrats’ strong message after Donald Trump’s indictment.
Sen. Josh Hawley Slams Latest Indictment Against Trump
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) strongly criticized the recent indictment against former President Donald Trump, accusing it of being a deliberate attempt to maintain the ruling party’s power. In an interview with The Ingraham Angle, Hawley expressed his concerns about the motives behind the indictment.
“This is the latest effort to keep the ruling party in power,” Hawley stated. “That’s what this is about.”
Hawley went on to highlight the broader implications of the indictment, suggesting that it is part of a larger pattern of targeting individuals who criticize the Democratic Party. He mentioned instances where Catholics, pro-life demonstrators, peaceful protesters, and parents attending school board meetings have faced legal consequences for challenging the ruling elites.
“The common thread is, if you challenge them, if you challenge the ruling party, the ruling elites, they will use the force of law against you,” Hawley emphasized.
The Missouri senator also expressed concern about the potential impact of the indictment on individuals considering government service, suggesting that it sends a clear message of intimidation.
“This is the message they are trying to send, a message loud and clear, and the message is: ‘Don’t mess with us,’” Hawley warned.
Hawley further argued that the targeting of Trump is a direct result of his willingness to challenge the ruling party, making it clear that dissent will not be tolerated.
“So I think the message is real clear: ‘Don’t challenge us. Don’t go to work for anybody who will challenge us. Don’t vote for Donald Trump or anybody like him, or we’ll treat you as a domestic terrorist,’” he added.
According to Hawley, if the Democrats succeed in their efforts, it would signify a significant erosion of the United States’ constitutional democracy.
Georgia Indictment and Potential Consequences
The indictment brought against Trump by a Georgia grand jury includes 41 counts and names 19 defendants. It accuses Trump of felony racketeering and various conspiracy charges related to his alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 election.
If found guilty under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act statute in Georgia, Trump could face a prison sentence of five to 20 years and a fine of $25,000 or three times the amount of money gained from the criminal activity, whichever is greater.
