Donald Trump indicted: Judge rules no video cameras allowed in court for arraignment

A judge in New York has ruled that former President Donald Trump’s arraignment will not be aired live. Judge Juan Merchan decided against allowing video cameras into the courtroom, with only five photographers permitted to take still photos for a few minutes before proceedings commence at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday. It remains unclear what these photos will be of.

This decision also extends to cell phones, laptops, and electronic devices not being allowed in the courtroom. However, cameras are permitted in hallways outside.

Donald Trump’s lawyers urged Judge Merchan to prevent cameras from entering the Manhattan courtroom, and this request has since been granted. The prosecutor’s office did not take a position on allowing cameras in the courtroom, citing discretion in controlling the conduct of the proceeding.

News outlets are predicting that Donald Trump will be indicted and charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. However, it is unlikely that he will be handcuffed or given a mug shot.

Judge Merchan oversaw the Manhattan grand jury that indicted Donald Trump last week, and has a strong history of cases relating to the former President. This includes holding the case and trial of the Trump Organization and former CFO Allen Weisselberg, as well as hearing former Trump aide Steve Bannon’s case.

There is expected to be a media frenzy surrounding the courthouse when Donald Trump arrives. Multiple news outlets are expected to be present and waiting to capture footage of the former president. Sources suggest that Trump may enter the building via the back entrance but could exit through the main doors.
