More evidence given to Trump team regarding security footage allegations in investigation.
The Justice Department Provides Additional Information in Federal Case
The Justice Department has recently provided lawyers representing former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants with additional information to review in the federal case regarding the handling of classified documents.
Trump is currently facing a total of 40 counts from the classified documents indictment, while Walt Nauta is facing five counts. Carlos De Oliveira, who was recently indicted, is facing four felony charges for allegedly conspiring to delete surveillance footage from Mar-a-Lago.
Special Counsel Reveals New Evidence
In a court filing, special counsel Jack Smith stated that the federal government has provided Nauta and Trump with a third “production of unclassified discovery” on Monday. This new evidence, referred to as “Production 3,” will be used in the prosecution’s case.
The additional information includes CCTV footage, data used to obtain a search warrant, memorialization of witness interviews, and grand jury transcripts, as mentioned in the court filing.
According to Smith, the CCTV footage was obtained from the Trump administration on May 9 and May 12, 2023. However, it was discovered on July 27 that this footage had not been processed and uploaded for the defense to view, contrary to previous claims made by the government.
Previous Productions and Revised Indictment
Smith also mentioned that two previous ”productions” of evidence had already been given to Trump and Nauta. With the completion of Production 3, all unclassified memorialization of witness interviews and grand jury transcripts in the government’s possession have now been disclosed.
Smith revised his original indictment against Nauta and Trump, adding new charges last week related to the alleged conspiracy to delete security footage. Both men have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Carlos De Oliveira, named as a third defendant in the case, made his first appearance in court on Monday. His arraignment was delayed until Aug. 10 to allow him to secure representation in Florida. He was released on a $100,000 bond and ordered to surrender his passport.
Once De Oliveira ”enters an appearance,” the federal government will provide all three productions to his counsel, as stated by Smith.
