The Senate voted 52:42 to end Garcetti’s nomination debate and to advance it to its floor for a full voting Wednesday afternoon. Seven Republicans voted in support of the confirmation vote while three Democrats opposed it.

Sens. Susan Collins (ME), Bill Cassidy(LA), Steve Daines, (R-MT), Lindsey Graham/SC), Bill Hagerty(TN), Roger Marshal KS, and Todd Young (IN).
Garcetti’s vote for cloture represents a significant milestone. His nomination was stalled for nearly a year due to allegations Garcetti knew about allegations of sexual harassment against one staffer. It was not clear how much support the nominee for President Joe Biden would get from his party members, as Democrats were uncomfortable with the scandal.
Biden had Garcetti nominated to the position in July 2021. He was then cleared by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. His nomination was halted after revelations of a sexual harassment suit involving a former top advisor.
Garcetti stated at his confirmation hearing in 2021 that he “never witnessed, nor was it brought to my attention, the behavior that’s been alleged.” However, a Sen. Chuck Grassley report (R-IA), concluded that it was. “extremely unlikely” Garcetti did not know about the allegations against his staffer.

After Democrats increased their Senate majority by one seat, Biden renominated Garcetti earlier in the year to be considered for consideration in the new Congress. Garcetti still has the full support of Biden and is being supported by the White House. “well-qualified to serve in this vital role.”
For the confirmation vote, the Senate will meet at 2:05 p.m.
