Former President Donald Trump criticizes Fani Willis on crime before anticipated arrival.
Former President Donald Trump Attacks Atlanta’s Crime Rate and District Attorney Fani Willis
“Why is there so much MURDER in Atlanta? Why is there so much Violent Crime? People are afraid to go outside to buy a loaf of bread! One big reason is that failed District Attorney, Fani Willis, who is campaigning and fundraising off ‘get Trump’ (much like the others!), doesn’t have the Time, Money, or Interest to go after the real criminals, even the REALLY Violent ones, that are destroying Atlanta, and its once beautiful culture and way of life. This is yet another SAD DAY IN AMERICA!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

According to data from the Atlanta Police Department, analyzed by the Atlanta Regional Commission, the city’s violent crime rate for 2022 was down after a three-year climb. Data show violent crime categorized as rape, aggravated assault, and robbery decreased. Aggravated assault dropped from 3,463 in 2021 to 3,202 in 2022; Robbery fell from 817 in 2021 to 705 in 2022; Rape decreased from 143 in 2021 to 123 in 2022. However, homicides rose for the third consecutive year, with police investigating 7% more homicides in 2022 than in 2021.
A Georgia grand jury indicted Trump this month, accusing him and his GOP allies of attempting to subvert the 2020 election. The 41-count indictment named 19 defendants total and charged Trump with felony racketeering and numerous conspiracy charges. Marking Trump’s fourth indictment, the Georgia case will be unlike any other legal battle he’s facing due to the state court rules, which could allow for cameras in the courtroom.
If the current Republican presidential front-runner is found guilty of charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act statute in Georgia, he could face five to 20 years in prison and a fine of $25,000 or three times the amount of money gained from the criminal activity, depending on which the larger sum turns out to be.
Authorities confirmed Trump will be fingerprinted, and a mug shot will be taken. The deadline for Trump and his 18 co-defendants in the case to turn themselves in is Friday at noon.
