Donalds surging in fundraising since announcing Florida gubernatorial run
Donors are showering Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) with cash after he announced his 2026 Florida governor bid in late February.
Donalds’s campaign has raised about $12 million, the Washington Examiner has learned. That includes $540,000 for his gubernatorial campaign and $11.5 million for the super PAC Friends of Byron Donalds.
“Byron Donalds has hit the ground running with President Trump’s endorsement and has amassed a $12 million war chest since announcing his bid for Governor just 35 days ago. We are grateful to the thousands of donors supporting Byron’s vision for Conservative leadership,” veteran Republican strategist Danielle Alvarez, who is assisting Donalds with his campaign, told Fox News.
Donalds is considered a favorite to win the Republican nomination after President Donald Trump gave him his endorsement. Another significant challenger to Donalds could be Florida first lady Casey DeSantis, who has not declared a campaign but has left speculation to boil.
“To quote the late Yogi Berra, if you see a fork in the road, take it,” she said at a February press conference before walking away from the podium. The saying could be interpreted that one must make a quick decision when faced with a two-way choice.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) then said, “You guys can read into that what you will.” He then talked his wife up. “She’s somebody that has, I think, the intestinal fortitude and the dedication to conservative principles. Anything we’ve accomplished, she’d be able to take to the next level.”
Casey DeSantis responded, “We’ll see” when asked last month about a gubernatorial run.
TRACKING WHAT DOGE IS DOING ACROSS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
Donalds replied to the speculation about Florida’s first lady running for governor by saying, “Races take on a shape of their own, so we’ll see what actually happens.”
“My mission is going to be focused on our future and the things that are necessary for Florida to go and to thrive and be prosperous for everybody. So that’s going to be my mission. We’ll see how the race shapes up,” he added. “I have a vision for their future and I think that when they hear it, they’re going to choose me.”
