Dove collaborates with BLM activist for ‘Fat Liberation’ campaign; activist targets white student with unverified claims.
Dove Partners with Black Lives Matter Activist in “Fat Liberation” Campaign
Dove has recently announced a partnership with Zyahna Bryant, a Black Lives Matter activist who has been accused of falsely accusing a white female student of making threatening remarks. The incident, which has caused significant controversy, has raised questions about the credibility of Bryant’s claims.
Bryant, who proudly declared her role as a Dove ambassador on Instagram, has been advocating for “fat liberation.” However, her credibility has been called into question after she accused fellow University of Virginia student Morgan Bettinger of making derogatory comments about George Floyd protesters at a Charlottesville rally.

According to Bryant, Bettinger approached the protesters and made offensive remarks, claiming they would make “good speed bumps.” Bryant then alleged that Bettinger called the police and falsely accused the protesters of attacking her. However, videos shared by Bryant did not provide any evidence of the alleged remarks, as noted by Reason in a detailed article on the incident.
The group that organized the protest, Charlottesville Beyond Policing, further supported Bryant’s claims in a statement on Medium:
… this rally and march was disturbed by a UVA student, Morgan Bettinger. Morgan drove around the public works truck blocking the street that demonstrators were convened on, and felt compelled to say, not just once, but twice, that protesters would “make good speed bumps.” The second time she repeated it loudly to a Black protester and added “good f***ing speed bumps.”
The story gained significant attention from local media, and Bryant launched a campaign demanding Bettinger’s expulsion from the university.
Bettinger, on the other hand, explained that she had encountered a dump truck blocking the road while driving home from work. She claimed that she passed the truck, not realizing the road was blocked ahead. She then engaged in a conversation with the truck driver, expressing gratitude for their presence, stating that they prevented the protesters from being harmed. Bettinger denied making any derogatory remarks.
An investigation conducted by the university’s Office for Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights (EOCR) found that three of Bryant’s four allegations could not be corroborated by other witnesses. The fourth allegation, that Bettinger yelled offensive comments, had one witness supporting Bryant’s claim. However, this witness contradicted both Bryant and herself during interviews. Additionally, Bryant later admitted that she was uncertain if she had heard Bettinger make the alleged statement at all, according to the EOCR report.

Despite the investigations, Bettinger’s reputation was permanently tarnished, and she graduated from the university with a mark on her record. Reason reported, ”There’s no evidence beyond Bryant’s allegations that Bettinger said protestors would make ‘good f***ing speed bumps’ or that she threatened the protesters at all.”
Bryant continues to promote “fat liberation” as a Dove partner, encouraging others to join the conversation using the hashtag #sizefreedom and tagging @dove to share their stories on Instagram.
