Drew Barrymore Expresses Admiration for ‘Momala’ Harris
Vice President Kamala Harris was featured in an interview with talk show host Drew Barrymore, emphasizing her family dynamic with husband Doug Emhoff and their children. During the interview, Harris, who was actively campaigning, humorously shared how her stepchildren lovingly call her “Momala.” The engaging discussion provided insight into Harris’s personal life beyond her political responsibilities.
Vice President Kamala Harris joined talk show host Drew Barrymore for an interview that aired Monday, focusing in length on Harris’s relationship with her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, and their children.
Harris, who was campaigning in person Monday in Atlanta, frequently jokes that her stepchildren affectionately refer to her as “Momala,” a nickname Barrymore picked up in the taped interview.
“I keep thinking in my head that we all need a mom,” Barrymore said, sitting practically knee-to-knee with the biden-defector-emails-pipeline-to-obama-admin-seen-as-currency/” title=”Hunter Biden Defector Emails: ‘Pipeline’ to Obama Admin Seen as ‘Currency'”>vice president. “I’ve been thinking that we really all need a tremendous hug in the world right now. But in our country, we need you to be Momala of the country.”
“As a woman who respects so much and wants to share and wants to be confident and has no ounce of meek, that has competitiveness — when we lift each other up, we all rise,” she continued. “We need a great protector.”
Harris responded by saying that she thinks that “Sadly, over the last many years, there’s been this kind of perverse approach to what strength looks like, which is to suggest that the measure of one’s strength is based on who you beat down, instead of what we know the true measure of your strength is based on where you lift up.”
Though President Joe Biden rarely sits for substantive interviews with the press, both he and Harris have ramped up their appearances in nonpolitical media ahead of the 2024 election. In addition to Harris’s Monday sitdown with Barrymore, the SmartLess podcast, hosted by actors Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, released an hourlong episode with Biden and former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
