Dylan Mulvaney seeks safety abroad amid rising public backlash.
Transgender Influencer Finds Safety and Solace in Peru
Renowned transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney recently made a bold move, leaving the United States behind to seek refuge in the beautiful country of Peru. In a heartfelt TikTok announcement, Mulvaney expressed mixed emotions about having to leave their home country in order to feel safe.
With over 10 million followers on TikTok, Mulvaney’s influence is undeniable. However, their involvement in a controversial Bud Light promotion caused a significant backlash, leading to a wave of conservatives disassociating themselves from the brand.
A Journey to Safety
“I feel very safe here,” Mulvaney shared in a video from Peru. “It’s a little sad I had to leave my country to feel safe, but that will get better eventually.”
The backlash against Mulvaney and Bud Light began in early April when the company released a beer can featuring Mulvaney’s face to commemorate a year of “girlhood.” This sparked a boycott campaign led by conservatives, resulting in a sharp decline in Bud Light sales. The repercussions even affected other brands within the parent company’s portfolio.
In June, Mulvaney expressed disappointment in Bud Light’s lack of support during the height of the controversy, admitting, “I’ve been scared to leave my house.”
A Healing Journey
Seeking solace and healing, Mulvaney embarked on a transformative journey in Peru. Filming from the iconic Machu Picchu, Mulvaney revealed, “I have done shaman ceremonies that have been equivalent to ten years’ worth of therapy.” In another video, the influencer joyfully posed with a llama adorned with a vibrant rainbow necklace.
Despite the controversy, Bud Light recently resurfaced on Twitter after a long hiatus. However, their attempt to regain favor has been met with mockery and criticism from other users on the platform.
While Mulvaney’s decision to leave their home country may be bittersweet, their journey to Peru represents a quest for safety, acceptance, and personal growth.
