Dylan Mulvaney’s 500-day journey as a girl teaches valuable lessons on trust and trauma.
Dylan Mulvaney Reflects on 500 Days of “Being a Girl”
Dylan Mulvaney, a biological man who identifies as a woman, recently took the time to reflect on the valuable lessons learned during his 500-day journey. However, Mulvaney also opened up about the challenges he faced due to backlash surrounding his daily posts about “trans joy,” which ultimately led to a decision to scale back on sharing such content.
“If I make the content that I want to make and freely share my trans joy, I subject myself to a lot more trauma. So, lately I’ve chosen to scale back in order to protect my overall well-being, and it works,” Mulvaney shared in a heartfelt video posted on TikTok and Instagram. “I am quite happy, but I’m not doing what I love, so it’s kind of a bittersweet thing.”
As an activist and influencer, Mulvaney celebrated the milestone of “day 500 of publicly coming out as a woman,” emphasizing that the lessons learned in the past year have been truly transformative. Mulvaney highlighted the importance of earning trust rather than expecting it to be instantly given, as well as the unfortunate reality that many struggle to see others’ happiness and success, especially when it challenges societal norms.
Reflecting on the recent backlash, Mulvaney likened the experience to high school, realizing that his personal journey cannot erase the pain experienced by other women. However, Mulvaney firmly believes that love can bridge the gap and make up for these differences.
“Something really ugly happened during these last few months, where I started to believe that if I just got really pretty and if I stayed quiet, I could still find success,” Mulvaney shared, expressing the heartbreak that accompanied this realization.
On day 488, Mulvaney discovered through an online poll that 50% of Americans support individuals like him. This revelation prompted Mulvaney to question the nature of such polls and what exactly they are voting on. Mulvaney emphasized that judgments based solely on pictures, videos, and articles represent only a fraction of his true identity.
Last week, Mulvaney excitedly announced on Instagram that he is currently booking speaking opportunities for the upcoming 23/24 school year. This update comes after facing criticism from conservatives on social media, particularly regarding a partnership Mulvaney had with Bud Light earlier this year.
Although the Instagram video was apparently deleted after approximately 30 minutes, Mulvaney’s message of resilience and self-discovery continues to resonate.
