Education Nation: Kamala Harris embraces left-wing education activism
As students head back to school this Fall, Washington Examiner is breaking down where each candidate stands on education. We will look at the promised policies of Former President Donald Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), and Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) and how their leadership could impact your child’s school once in the White House.
This episode, we are looking at Vide President Kamala Harris. Now the democratic nominee for president, Harris has received backing early on from teachers unions. In one of Harris’s first addresses after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, she spoke to the American Federation of Teachers.
“I thank you also for being the first union to endorse me this week,” Harris said. “The work you do is about the future. You see, the work you do in every child helps shape the future of our nation.”
The California Democrat has pitched dramatically increasing teacher pay by over $13,000 on average, which would have cost an estimated $315 billion over the course of 10 years. Harris is also a proponent of diversity, equity, and inclusion, has gone toe-to-toe against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) over the education fight, and backed proposals to make two-year college programs “free” and four-year programs free for middle and lower-income people.
No word from Harris since her presidential campaign launch on her views on the Biden Administration’s pandemic protocols which left many students far behind in their education, and Biden’s student loan forgiveness plans which have been blocked by the supreme court.
