Elderly Woman Who Shot Terminally Ill Husband Released From Jail: Police

Gilland was previously held without bond. Late January saw Judge Mary Jolley reading the charges and denying Gilland bond.
“Based upon the nature of the charge, Ms. Gilland, I am going to hold you no bond on the murder charge and remaining charges,” According to the judge, according to Fox 35 Orlando.
Last week, the charges against Gilland were reduced to assisting self-murder/manslaughter and aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, HuffPost reported.
Daytona Beach Police Department officers responded to a call from AdventHealth Hospital at 11:35 AM on January 21st to report that Ellen had locked herself in her hospital room after shooting Jerry.
Hostage negotiators were sent to the hospital in an attempt to get Gilland out of his room.
“They announced a code silver shelter in place, and that’s when sort of everything kind of became real,” Dr. Joshua Horenstein told Fox 35.

“One of the doors banged open, and the nurse came in screaming like this is not a drill. She was semi-hysterical,” He concluded.
He and two other patients hid for about an hour and half in a closet inside the hospital’s emergency room.
The flash bang and the taser were used by police to make Gilland drop her gun. Fox 35 said that Gilland had never been considered dangerous to any other person and that nobody was hurt during the incident.
Jakari, Daytona Beach Police chief Jakari and Ellen Young revealed that Gillands had plotted the murder-suicide several weeks before Ellen shot the gun.
“They had a conversation about it, and they planned this approximately three weeks ago that if he continues to take a turn for the worst that he wanted her to end it,” Young said.
Gilland’s smuggling into hospital was not known, but the chief of police said that there were no metal detectors in the building.
“It’s a tough situation where her husband’s terminally ill so she was already in a depressed state just based on her husband being terminally ill and knowing that the end was near,” Young added.
Young said that Jerry planned to commit suicide but had grown too weak, according to other media outlets. The Daily Beast reported. Ellen originally planned to shoot Jerry, then she turned the gun on her own, but police stated that Ellen couldn’t continue with her plan.
