Soros and Zuckerberg-linked Election Group Holds Closed Conference in Washington.
Secretive Elections Group with Ties to Soros and Zuckerberg Hosts Closed Summit
An elections group with ties to Democrat mega-donor George Soros and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently hosted a closed-door summit in Washington, D.C. The Center for Election Integrity & Research (CEIR) organized the event, which was called a “Summit on American Democracy” and was invite-only. Despite being live-streamed, independent media outlets were denied access to the high-ranking officials attending the summit, including Secretaries of State and other election officials.
Partisan Allegations and Contested Claims
CEIR claims to be nonpartisan, but its founder, David Becker, has faced accusations of political bias against conservatives. During the summit, Becker dismissed concerns about election fraud and repeated contested claims about the security of the 2020 election. Journalist Laura Loomer, who challenged this narrative, was allegedly removed from the conference and the police were called on her.
Multimillion-Dollar Funding from Zuckerberg
In August 2020, CEIR received $69.5 million from Mark Zuckerberg under the guise of COVID-19 safety precautions. This funding was used to furnish the organization with equipment and pay for election-related expenses. Critics argue that this funding raises questions about the group’s impartiality.
Allegations of Political Bias Against Conservatives
Becker’s track record is splotched with claims of political biases against conservatives. In 2005, while working in the Civil Rights division of the Department of Justice, he was the subject of a formal ethics complaint for making “nasty, disparaging remarks about Republicans.” Brad Schlozman, who directed the Civil Rights division at the time, suggested that Becker deserved to be disbarred. Becker has also portrayed Trump as a liar and a danger to democratic norms.
Conclusion
The closed nature of the “Summit on American Democracy” has raised concerns about the impartiality of CEIR and its ties to Soros and Zuckerberg. Critics argue that the group’s funding and Becker’s track record of political bias against conservatives undermine its claims of nonpartisanship.
