Elon Musk Calls For Regulatory Oversight Of AI To Prevent ‘Danger To The Public’
Twitter CEO Elon Musk Calls for Government Regulation of Artificial Intelligence
In a recent interview on HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher, Elon Musk expressed his concerns about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) and called for government regulatory oversight to protect the public.
Musk stated that if AI is considered a potential risk to the public, then there should be a regulatory body overseeing what companies are doing to ensure they don’t cut corners and potentially do something dangerous. He compared this oversight to that of other industries such as aircraft, cars, food, and drugs.
Not Everyone Agrees
During the interview, Maher mentioned that some notable figures, like American computer scientist and futurist Ray Kurzweil, do not see AI as a problem at all. Musk responded by saying that Kurzweil is in the category of people who want to live forever and see AI as the only way to achieve that goal.
While opinions on AI may differ, Musk’s call for government regulation highlights the need for caution and oversight as technology continues to advance.
