Elon Musk: Nearly Every Conspiracy Theory About Twitter Has Turned Out to Be True
On the All-In podcast on Saturday, Twitter CEO Elon Musk claimed that “every conspiracy theory that people had about Twitter turned out to be true.”
Is there a Twitter conspiracy theory that wasn’t shown to be true? said Musk. “So far, they’ve all proven to be true, if not more true than people had originally believed.”
The All-In hosts questioned Musk about the Twitter files, a collection of records that describe talks that took place at Twitter over a period of years regarding the company’s efforts to censor content and cooperate with law enforcement to suppress information.
Musk said that the “FBI material is really severe” in response to the question “Is there a part of the files that truly shocked you?”
On December 2, Matt Taibbi tweeted the first batch of Twitter files, which exposed the purposeful measures taken by Twitter behind the scenes to restrict news about Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell” at the direction of the FBI, particularly FBI Supervisory Special Agent Elvis Chan.
previous director of Twitter Trust and Safety Chan encouraged Yoel Roth to fraudulently classify information on Hunter Biden’s business dealings from his laptop as a Russian “hack-and-dump” plan, which the media took up and broadcast under the pretext that to report differently would be a conspiracy theory.
Details about the cooperation between the social media behemoth and the FBI emerged in each of the Twitter files installments, particularly round six. According to Taibbi, the FBI operated as a “subsidiary” of the firm prior to Elon Musk’s acquisition.
On December 19, an addition to the Twitter files revealed that, despite Twitter’s claims to the contrary, the FBI had exerted pressure on the company to discover proof of foreign influence on the site.
The hosts added that Musk was probably unsurprised by “the fact that these firms were shadow banning, notwithstanding their denials,” Round 2 of the Twitter documents was released by Bari Weiss on December 8 and confirmed that under the supervision of Vijaya Gadde, a former Twitter lead counsel, the social media platform’s leadership created blacklists and engaged in shadow banning for years. Gadde and other Twitter employees, including the company’s founder Jack Dorsey, misled the general public about the shadow banning.
More information on the extent to which the FBI collaborated with Twitter to suppress postings that challenged the official line on issues like Covid and the Ukraine was made public in a Twitter file leak on Saturday.
Did you genuinely think that the FBI was in charge of flagging content for these firms to remove, as the question put to you suggested? Musk responded “yes” and that the flagged posts had “nothing to do with like, terrorism.”
