Elon Musk boldly expressed his support for a Mexico-United States border wall and emphasized the need for migrants to provide evidence in order to receive asylum.
During a conversation on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, the CEO of SpaceX responded to a thread by affirming the necessity of a reliable wall for the United States and proposing that immigrants should be required to present some form of evidence to claim asylum.
“We actually do need a wall, and we need to require people to have some shred of evidence to claim asylum to enter, as everyone is doing that,” Musk said. “It’s a hack that you can literally Google to know exactly what to say!”
The X CEO engaged in an online discussion that revolved around a statement made by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy regarding the border crisis and the potential government shutdown.
“But if you paid attention last night to what happened to the border yesterday, 11,000 people came across illegally. That’s 50,000 in just the last five days,” McCarthy told reporters in the posted video. “And you’ve got the governor of New York and the governor of Massachusetts declaring a state of emergency. The president can take action, the presidency can do something here that would really keep the government open but at the same time secure our border.”
Musk responded to McCarthy’s claims, emphasizing that the border issues are indeed a “severe crisis.”
“The border needs to be secured. This is not a partisan issue — even the elected Democrat Party leaders of New York are saying this is a severe crisis,” Musk said. “Will find out more when I visit Eagle Pass maybe as soon as tomorrow.”
Musk further announced his plans to visit Eagle Pass, Texas, in order to witness the situation firsthand after speaking with a state congressman who described the humanitarian crisis at the border as a “serious issue.”
According to reports, over 11,000 illegal immigrants crossed into the U.S. from Mexico in just one day, marking it as the “single highest day in recent memory.”

What are the potential risks and challenges associated with unregulated migration and how can they be addressed effectively?
Ssue that requires immediate attention.”
While Musk’s support for a border wall and stricter asylum requirements may come as a surprise to some, it aligns with his previous statements on immigration. In the past, Musk has expressed concerns about the potential strain on resources and infrastructure caused by unregulated migration.
However, it is worth noting that Musk’s statements do not necessarily reflect the views of all tech industry leaders. Many CEOs and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley have taken a more liberal stance on immigration, advocating for more inclusive policies and the protection of immigrant rights.
Nevertheless, Musk’s influence and the attention his statements garner cannot be underestimated. With over 68 million followers on X, Musk’s opinions hold significant weight and have the potential to shape public discourse on important issues.
Musk’s call for evidence-based asylum claims also taps into a larger debate surrounding immigration policy. Proponents argue that stricter requirements help prevent fraudulent claims and ensure that resources are allocated to those most in need. Critics, on the other hand, argue that such requirements may unfairly discriminate against vulnerable individuals who are fleeing violence, persecution, or other dire circumstances.
As the border crisis continues to dominate headlines and elicit heated debates, Musk’s support for a wall and stricter asylum requirements adds another layer to the complex discussion on immigration. It remains to be seen how his position will be received by the public and policymakers.
In the meantime, Musk’s plans to visit Eagle Pass indicate a genuine interest in understanding the realities of the border situation firsthand. It is important for prominent figures like Musk to engage in dialogue and seek firsthand experiences to inform their opinions and influence policy decisions.
As the CEO of companies like SpaceX and Tesla, Musk is known for his innovation and groundbreaking ideas. Whether or not one agrees with his stance on immigration, his willingness to engage in public debate and use his platform to promote discussion is a testament to the power of free speech and the importance of diverse perspectives in shaping our society.
