Elon Musk Urges Equal Pursuit of Justice to Avoid Losing American Public’s Trust
Elon Musk has called for the U.S. justice system to be non-partisan in pursuing Democrats and Republicans to avoid losing the trust of the public. His comment comes in response to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s statement on Twitter that former President Donald Trump “will have a fair trial” based on “the facts and the law” after being charged with 34 counts of felony for falsifying business records to the first degree on Tuesday in Manhattan, to which he pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Musk has previously expressed similar opinions to those of some Trump supporters and Republican lawmakers, who view these charges against the former President as something that could reverse boost his chances of reclaiming the presidency in 2024 rather than something that would harm him.
The SpaceX founder has, in fact, predicted that Trump would get reelected in a “landslide victory” if he were to be arrested, particularly if he were processed through the courthouse in downtown Manhattan where he could be handcuffed and fingerprinted.
Legal Jeopardy
Speaking to a crowd of about 500 people at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after pleading not guilty in Manhattan, Trump expressed his surprise at “anything like this could happen in America.” He warned that it could lead to a state of chronic dysfunction in the country. He also said that there is no crime against him, and the indictment against him is insulting to the country, adding that the world is already laughing.
The 16-page indictment against Trump alleges that he falsified records related to payments made to keep negative information about him concealed, including a payment of $130,000 made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, who claims that the former President had an affair with her. Trump has denied these claims.
Trump’s day in court marked a historic moment as he becomes the first U.S. president to face prosecution after leaving office. The case may facilitate the progression of other probes against Trump that may lead to a criminal charge, according to former Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin O’Brien, because it sets a precedent that allows other prosecutors to pursue the same.
