Elon Musk Visits China to Promote Mutual Cooperation

Tesla CEO Elon Musk landed in Beijing on Tuesday in what is his first trip to China in three years.

Musk’s visit to China is highly anticipated as he is expected to meet with Chinese officials and visit Tesla’s Shanghai plant. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Mao Ning expressed her excitement about Musk’s visit and said, “We are happy to see foreign enterprises investing in new business in China, taking root in the Chinese market, and sharing development opportunities.”

Promoting Automated-Driving Technology in China

Aside from visiting the Shanghai plant, Musk may also meet with Premier Li Qiang to discuss Tesla’s automated-driving technology that the company plans to introduce in China.

Tesla’s Shanghai plant is a significant contributor to the automaker’s global production, accounting for more than half of its production in 2022. The production facility has the capacity to produce up to 1.1 million cars per year.
