Beloved Actor‍ Ronald Cephas⁤ Jones Passes Away‍ at 66

Actor Ronald ⁤Cephas Jones, known for his role on ABC’s family drama “This Is ​Us,” has​ sadly⁤ passed away at the age‍ of 66.

Jones battled with health issues for several years, ultimately undergoing a double‌ lung transplant.

“Beloved and ‌award-winning actor​ Ron ‌Cephas Jones has passed‌ away at the age of 66 due to a long-standing pulmonary issue,” a representative​ for the‍ actor told ABC News.

The statement added, ​“Throughout the course of his career, his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness, and heart were felt by anyone‍ who had the good fortune of knowing him. ⁤Ron’s inner-beauty and soul were evident to the huge audience from his multi-Emmy award-winning ‍performance on ‘This is Us.’”

Jones is survived by his daughter, 34-year-old actress Jasmine Cephas Jones.

The two made history as⁣ the first father-daughter duo‌ to win Emmy Awards on the same night in 2020.

Jones received an Emmy for his portrayal of William Hill, the​ biological father of Sterling K. Brown’s character on “This Is Us.”

The actor was nominated for a total of four Emmys for his role and won two of them.

Mandy Moore, who played Rebecca Pearson ⁣on the show, ‍paid tribute to Jones in a⁢ heartfelt ‌statement.

“Getting to know and work​ with Ron on the wild ride of ‘This Is Us’ was the greatest gift – he was pure magic as ‌a human and an ⁤artist,” she said. “I will‍ treasure all of the moments forever.”

Jones began his television career ⁤ in 1996 with an episode of “Law⁣ & Order.” He went on to star in various TV shows and films.

As recently as last year, he appeared ‍in eight episodes of‌ “Law & ​Order: Organized Crime” while bidding farewell to his character ​on “This Is Us.”

He also ⁤had notable roles in Spike Lee’s 1998 film “He Got Game” and other films like “Across‌ the Universe” and “Glass Chin.”

Jones had a long and successful theater career both on and off Broadway, all while battling chronic health issues.

In an interview with NBC News last year, he opened up about his battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ‌and his recovery from ​a double lung transplant.

“You ‌don’t get new lungs ‌and start running ‌track,” he said. “It’s⁤ a procedure that you ‌have to constantly work on your body. Medication is⁢ involved⁣ and therapy.”
