FBI whistleblowers expose “serious abuses” amidst politicization, says House report.
House Judiciary Republicans Unveil Whistleblower Report on FBI Misallocations and Abuse
On May 18, House Judiciary Republicans released a whistleblower report that exposes serious abuse and misallocations of resources by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). According to a whistleblower, the FBI has become “cancerous” and “enveloped in politicization and weaponization.” The report also reveals that the FBI has become politically weaponized, as evidenced by Special Counsel John Durham’s report.
Press Conference and Findings of the Report
On the morning of the report’s release, Republicans held a press conference to discuss its findings. The conference was led by Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and included Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.), and others. Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) stated that the report’s findings were not a conspiracy theory but actual testimony from brave whistleblowers.
Among the report’s findings, the FBI sought to inflate domestic terrorism figures, particularly in regards to Jan. 6 cases. The FBI Washington Field Office (WFO) pressured its Boston office to investigate 140 individuals in connection to Jan. 6, but only two of the 140 people entered the Capitol. The report also alleges that the FBI leadership pressured agents to reclassify cases as domestic violence extremism incidents (DVEs) and even manufactured DVE cases where they may not otherwise exist. This may have been a reference to the FBI’s alleged role in a 2021 plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, where at least 12 FBI agents are accused of having participated in, planned, and encouraged the plot.
The report also reveals that Bank of America provided the FBI with confidential information about its customers’ bank transactions in Washington on Jan. 6. Customers were not informed of this transfer of data. Other whistleblower allegations claim that the FBI created a “threat tag” to target pro-life individuals and organizations in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned the federal right to abortion. In September 2022, the FBI raided the home of Matthew Houck, a pro-life Catholic, for having obstructed access to an abortion.
Conclusion
The whistleblower report sheds light on the FBI’s serious abuse and misallocations of resources. The report’s findings reveal that the FBI has become politically weaponized and has sought to inflate domestic terrorism figures to serve a narrative. The report also exposes the FBI’s alleged role in a 2021 plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and the creation of a “threat tag” to target pro-life individuals and organizations. These revelations are alarming and require further investigation to ensure that the FBI is held accountable for its actions.
