New York City Mayor Eric Adams continued his warming up to President-elect Donald Trump by praising the pick of Tesla CEO Elon Musk as head of the Department of Government Efficiency.

Adams and Trump have formed an unusually warm relationship, with the two publicly defending each other. Adams continued the trend in an interview on PIX 11, comparing Trump’s goal of government efficiency with his own efforts in New York City.

“One of the people I think it was important to bring on board, some people may argue, is Elon Musk,” he said. “We’re dealing with an antiquated government filled with bureaucracy unwilling to make any changes.”

One example of modernizing the government that Adams floated was instituting drones, something he has attempted to do in the city.

“I’m a big believer in technology. I don’t know if many of you noticed that the incoming president is using Digidog, one of the technologies that we use here,” he said. “He’s using it in Florida now to protect his grounds. It just shows that we have been leading from the front.”

The mayor also remained neutral on Trump’s most controversial Cabinet pick, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) for attorney general, who would lead the department investigating him for alleged corruption. The attorney general has the ability to wipe away cases pursued by the Department of Justice and could do so for Adams.

“You got to pick the right people that understand your vision and are willing to move with that vision,” he said. “And [Trump’s] choosing those who believe.”

Gaetz has offered some praise of Adams in the past.

“[To be honest] Eric Adams gets mad respect from me for sitting in a middle seat,” he said about a video in which a pro-Palestinian protester accosted Adams during a flight.

Trump has suggested that Adams’s indictment may be a political hit job, a similar picture he painted about his own indictments. Adams, in turn, has criticized alarmist rhetoric used by Democrats about Trump.

Last month, he derided a question about whether or not Trump is a fascist as “insulting” and contended that the country still needs to be “the United States and not the divided states” after the 2024 election.
