Eric Adams’s alleged fallen cop photo is a fabrication.
City Hall Aides Splashed Coffee on Pic to Make It Look Old, According to New York Times Report
Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams has repeatedly shown off a picture of a murdered police officer, claiming he has kept it in his wallet for decades. However, it has been revealed that the picture was actually a Google printout that Adams’ aides altered last year to make it appear as if he had carried it for a long time, as reported by the New York Times on Thursday.
Adams has used this picture to enhance his image as tough on crime, even stating that the killings of two police officers reminded him of the line-of-duty death of his friend, Officer Robert Venable, in 1987, according to the Times report. He claimed to keep a picture of Venable in his wallet and even posed for a photo holding it. Adams has repeated this anecdote and displayed the Venable photo on multiple occasions since then.
However, the Times revealed that the photo had not actually been in the mayor’s wallet for decades. Adams had instructed City Hall employees to print out a Google image of the fallen officer and make it look older, even going as far as splashing some coffee on it. Two former City Hall aides confirmed that they were aware of the manipulated photo shortly after it was created.
This is not the first time Adams has faced accusations of manipulating the truth. The mayor, who claims to be a vegan, was caught ordering fish just days after mandating that New York City schools serve only vegan food on Fridays, as reported by the Washington Free Beacon.
In addition, the mayor recently appointed his sister-in-law to a six-figure city job and compared a woman opposing rent hikes to a slave owner, causing his favorability ratings to decline, according to a Siena College poll last month. Among black voters in New York State, only 29 percent have a favorable view of Adams, the poll found.
Adams’ spokesperson, Fabien Levy, criticized the Times report, dismissing it as offensive. However, Levy refused to provide further details about the authenticity of the photo or address questions regarding its alteration, as stated by the Times.
