Eric Holder was hired by Starbucks for diversity advice, now faces lawsuit.
Race Hustling: Good Money and Legal Risks
Race hustling can be a lucrative business, but avoiding lawsuits is crucial. Just ask former Attorney General Eric Holder, who is currently in the clear. However, Starbucks, following Holder’s recommendations from a “racial equity audit,” is now facing legal action for alleged racial discrimination.
According to a report by The Washington Free Beacon, Starbucks hired Covington & Burling, a prestigious law firm where Holder serves as senior counsel, to conduct “civil rights assessments.” This move came after a highly publicized incident in 2018, where two black men were arrested at a Philadelphia store for refusing to leave after being denied restroom access. Seeking improvement, Starbucks sought Holder’s expertise.
Holder and his team published a report that recommended various strategies, including “tying executive pay to diversity targets, setting spending goals for ‘diverse suppliers,’ and launching a mentorship program for ‘BIPOC’ employees,” as reported by The Free Beacon.
Now, the National Center for Public Policy Research, a Starbucks shareholder, is suing the company for alleged civil rights violations and racial discrimination.
Starbucks is not the only company implementing such “diversity, equity, and inclusion” policies. The Free Beacon reveals that other major companies have also established programs that exclude white individuals.
Attorney Adam Mortara finds Holder’s recommendations perplexing and questions the legal justification behind them. ”I’m stunned that a law firm would have counseled any company to do this,” Mortara expressed.
Interestingly, Holder’s report did not address the legality of his suggested policies, as noted by The Beacon. It is worth mentioning that Holder has charged over $2,000 for similar work in other instances.
