US police suspect that an escaped murderer is responsible for a recent local crime and anticipate further incidents.
Authorities Search for Escaped Murderer
Authorities are on the hunt for an escaped murderer who has managed to evade capture since breaking out of a southeastern Pennsylvania prison over a week ago. The fugitive, Danelo Souza Cavalcante, has recently slipped out of the search area, changed his appearance, and even stole a dairy delivery van in an attempt to contact acquaintances.
Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police expressed determination to continue the search with the help of various law enforcement agencies. He remains confident that Cavalcante will eventually be recaptured, stating, “We’ll get him, it’s a matter of time.”
The stolen van, belonging to Baily’s Dairy, was taken on Saturday night while the employees were still working. Cavalcante managed to travel more than 20 miles northeast before attempting to meet with former work associates in East Pikeland Township and Phoenixville.
Doorbell video footage revealed Cavalcante’s new appearance, with a clean-shaven face and wearing a yellow or green hooded sweatshirt, black baseball cap, green prison pants, and white shoes. The stolen van was later found abandoned in a field behind a barn in East Nantmeal Township.
While law enforcement continues to search for Cavalcante, they are concerned that he may try to obtain another vehicle. The fugitive, who escaped from Chester County Prison, was awaiting transfer to state prison after being sentenced to life for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend. Police believe he wanted to prevent her from reporting his involvement in a killing in Brazil.
Despite the extensive search efforts, the search area has proven challenging to secure completely due to underground tunnels and large drainage ditches. However, authorities are determined to conduct a massive sweep of the area with close to 600 personnel.
Cavalcante is considered extremely dangerous, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact 911. A reward of $20,000 is being offered for information leading to his capture.
The escape and ongoing search have garnered international attention, particularly in Brazil, where Cavalcante is accused of another homicide. The firing of the prison tower guard on duty during the escape has also been announced.
As the search for the escaped murderer continues, authorities anticipate more developments in this high-profile case.
