Inmate Who Escaped Pennsylvania Jail Captured After Nine Days on the Run

An inmate who made a daring escape from a Warren County, Pennsylvania jail last week has finally been apprehended. Michael Burham, 34, was captured after a thrilling nine-day manhunt, according to police reports.

“I’m not a big believer in coincidences,” said Lt. Col. George Bivens of the Pennsylvania State Police during a press conference. “It could be that there was a perfectly innocent and reasonable explanation. It could also be that it was somehow connected to his escape. And we intend to find out more about that.”

The breakthrough came when a tipster reported a suspicious person in Conewango Township. The homeowner, alerted by his barking dog, discovered Burham in his backyard. After a brief conversation, the homeowner recognized the fugitive and promptly alerted the authorities.

With the area surrounded, police engaged in a short pursuit and successfully took Burham into custody. Although he was found without any possessions, authorities are conducting a thorough search of the surrounding area.

Burham is now in the custody of the Pennsylvania State Police and is currently being processed. He will not be returned to the Warren County Jail but will instead face charges related to his escape.

Intensive Manhunt and Daring Escape

The search for Burham involved more than 200 officers from 15 federal, state, and local agencies. During their investigation, police discovered bags containing food, clothes, and supplies in various wooded areas.

Warren County Commissioner Jeff Eggleston described Burham’s escape as a remarkable feat, comparing him to a spider. Surveillance footage revealed that the inmate used exercise equipment to reach a window, from which he descended using a makeshift rope made from bedsheets. Despite a swift response from prison staff, Burham managed to flee the building in just 10 seconds.

Authorities are also investigating the possibility of a drone being involved in the escape. They are searching for the operator and considering the potential of an accomplice aiding Burham’s getaway.

Burham, who was being held on $1 million bail for charges including kidnapping and burglary, is also the prime suspect in the murder of Kala Hodgkin and a related arson. Additionally, he is accused of abducting an elderly couple in Pennsylvania.
