That’s exactly what happened to the MotorTrend test drivers during their day at the track with the Lucid Air Grand Touring. This high-end electric vehicle, which was named the 2022 Car of the Year, was being put through its paces as part of a yearlong test by the magazine’s editors.

According to associate editor Justin Banner, the issue may be similar to a problem Ford experienced with its Mustang Mach-E electric cars, which resulted in a recall of nearly 50,000 vehicles. Ford determined that the problem was caused by repeated use of DC fast charging and driving at wide-open throttle, and released a software update to resolve the issue.
MotorTrend can only hope that Lucid is working on a similar solution to prevent future incidents like the one they experienced. In the meantime, the test drivers will have to wait for answers and continue their yearlong evaluation of the Lucid Air Grand Touring.
