Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” took a shot at Vice President Kamala Harris — and her tendency to unleash unintelligible “word salads” on an unsuspecting public — with a segment featuring correspondent Desi Lydic as the VP’s “holistic thought advisor.”
The brutal segment included several clips of Harris delivering a series of mind-bogglingly unconnected thoughts along with Lydic, who calmly explained that her process as an advisor was to encourage “speaking without thinking.”

“I lead the Vice President on … idea voyages,” Lydic began, and the camera cut away to a clip of Harris.
“You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?” she asked, punctuating the question with a loud laugh before adding, “You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.”
“It’s a process I call speaking without thinking,” Lydic explained. “It’s not about the destination of the thought, it’s about the journey and how many words you use to describe the journey.”
Another clip of Harris followed: “That’s on top of everything else that we know and don’t know yet, based on what we’ve just been able to see and because we’ve seen it or not doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened.”
Lydic, as the holistic advisor, said that part of her job was to review Harris’ prewritten remarks — and she said that what she often did was cut them up and view each word as a separate entity in her “word cave.”

“That’s where I wait to learn what order the universe wants them to be in. Words have vibrations. The feeling they give you is so much more powerful than what they mean,” she said.
Lydic concluded by saying that she understood her work was controversial, but she stood by it: “I hear the counter-arguments all the time. People should be able to understand what their leaders are saying when they talk, but I prefer to leave Kamala’s thoughts open to interpretation, like a work of modern art that you look at and go, ‘I wonder what that was all about.’”
