Everclear to play at healthcare price transparency event before Congressional Baseball Game.
Everclear to Perform at Healthcare Price Transparency Event
Get ready for a night of alt-rock and healthcare advocacy! Everclear, the iconic 90s band behind hits like “Santa Monica” and “Father of Mine,” will be performing at Power to the Patients’ pre-game party ahead of the 2023 Congressional Baseball Game. The event aims to promote legislation that expands price transparency in healthcare.
“I went through it when I got home after [my wife] basically had an anxiety attack. They were charging me $19,000 for a titanium screw from my back. And $200 for an Advil. There’s got to be more transparency,”
A Personal Cause for Everclear’s Guitarist
For Everclear’s guitarist, Art Alexakis, this issue hits close to home. In 2016, he was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and was shocked by the massive bill that followed. “Luckily for me because of the success Everclear has had, I have pretty good insurance through SAG-AFTRA, through my union,” he explained. “But one of the things I noticed is that we don’t get to see what we’re paying for when anybody — whether you have insurance or not — goes into the hospital.”
Alexakis believes that price transparency is essential for creating a more equitable healthcare system. “Would you go into a store, like a department store, to buy something if there were no prices?” he asked. “I understand about patient’s rights — that’s something that’s very important to me.”
Supporting the PATIENT Act
Power to the Patients is supporting the bipartisan Promoting Access to Treatments and Increasing Extremely Needed Transparency, or PATIENT, Act, introduced by Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Frank Pallone (D-NJ). The bill aims to promote “hospital and insurer price transparency” by requiring hospitals to make prices for standard procedures and treatments available to the public.
