Every Bite Of Processed Food Is Killing You: Study
Your cereal could be causing you to die.
The new Study A Tuesday report from England links ultra-processed foods to a higher risk of developing or dying from cancer.
Researchers at London’s Imperial School of Public Health collected diet data for nearly 200,000 middle-aged adults and monitored their health over roughly 10 years, specifically their risk of developing 34 types of cancer. Medical researchers discovered that for every 10 percent increase in the intake of “ultra-processed” food — defined as items heavily processed during production such as ready-to-eat meals and a majority of breakfast cereals — was associated with a 2 percent rise in cancer incidence and a 6 percent increase in overall cancer mortality. A 10-point increase of processed food intake was associated with an increase in ovarian carcinoma and a staggering 30 percent increase in the number of ovarian deaths.
“This study adds to the growing evidence that ultra-processed foods are likely to negatively impact our health including our risk for cancer,” Dr. Eszter Vamos, the lead author of this article, stated in a Press release. “Although our study cannot prove causation, other available evidence shows that reducing ultra-processed foods in our diet could provide important health benefits.”
The study was limited to U.K. residents. However, it did include Britain and the United States. similar levels A large number of overweight people are dependent on processed foods. Prepackaged foods are often more affordable and easier than healthier alternatives. Additionally, they contain high levels of sugar that can make them addictive. Prioritizing Research The same team also found that processed foods are more popular in the United Kingdom than elsewhere in Europe. It also linked processed foods with type 2 diabetes and obesity.
“The average person in the UK consumes more than half of their daily energy intake from ultra-processed foods,” Dr. Kiara Chung, another author of the study, said: “This is exceptionally high and concerning as ultra-processed foods are produced with industrially derived ingredients and often use food additives to adjust color, flavor, consistency, texture, or extend shelf life.”
The obesity epidemic in the United States has reached such an extreme level that the American Academy of Pediatrics was able to publish its January report. Released Guidelines for treating severe cases of children with serious illnesses have been updated. These guidelines include aggressive pharmaceutical use and surgical procedures.
The AAP recommends that obese children 12 years old and older are prescribed one of three medications to reduce their weight.
