Ex-Atlanta Mayor Turned Senior-Biden Adviser Leaving White House
Joe Biden’s administration has been relatively stable throughout his term. So far at least. His term was not marked by frequent departures of cabinet members or high-ranking officials and advisers. They have mostly remained put despite the constant crises facing their administration. However, a few of them have been moving on to other things in recent times, which is attracting some attention. Is it the right time for normal burnout to occur or is it something more?
Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha L. Bottoms will be leaving her post as a senior Biden official. Monday was clear for her that she plans to continue working in Georgia’s public policy. As the Office of Public Engagement’s head, her role at the White House was temporary. “It’s time for me to get back home, get back to my family and focus on the future.”
Biden recognized Bottoms for his efforts to keep equity at its core.
Biden announced Monday that Stephen Benjamin (ex-mayor of Columbia, South Carolina) would replace Bottoms as a senior advisor at the Office of Public Engagement. After she has left April
“I have leaned on Keisha as a close advisor with exceptional instincts, and I am grateful to her for serving our nation with honor and integrity,” Biden said. “I wish her the best as she returns home to Atlanta to be with her family.”
He explained that the Office of Public Engagement is the “Office of Public Engagement”. “connective tissue” Between his office and ordinary Americans who struggle to make their voices heard in Washington. I wonder if Biden really understands the difference between equality and equity. In this administration equity is the hottest buzzword. They are more interested in hiring people based upon how many identity boxes they can check than on their qualifications. Equity is when people are offered special treatment or preferential treatment in order to cover past injustices. Biden would rather be concerned about equal opportunities than special preferences if he was following the example of Martin Luther King, Jr., who he frequently refers to when he tries to virtue signal about race and equality.
Keisha Bottoms was selected as Biden’s vice president. There were many controversies during her time as mayor. Bottoms initially reacted against violence in the BLM marches that erupted in downtown Atlanta. However, she then turned to Trump and blamed him for inciting it. Many Atlanta Police Department officers went on strike in protest of Rayshard’s murder. Bottoms declared Atlanta a “welcoming city” She signed an executive order prohibiting city jails from holding ICE detainees. She refused to support ICE, and closed the detention centre to ICE detainees. When Governor Kemp announced that businesses would reopen in April 2020, she strongly rebuked her. She said it was too soon. Bottoms pulled back some of Kemp’s reopening measures including the mandate for a face mask, and Kemp filed suit against Kemp in Superior Court to overturn her order. Bottoms is, in other words: a progressive of the run-of-the mill. These are the people Biden focuses on while in office.
Good riddance.
Georgia is a key state for Democrats. They want to make Georgia a blue state, and not a purple state. It was therefore logical to offer Keisha Lance Bottoms a position in Biden’s government. Biden hired someone to replace her. Another important state – South Carolina. Biden is stacking his deck in his favor for 2024’s Democratic primary. South Carolina is the first state to participate in the primary season. Biden has only one opponent so far. Marianne Williamson will not be a strong competitor, but she is a master at getting publicity and will use it to her advantage.
Statement by President Biden: “Mayor Benjamin has been serving the people of South Carolina over two decades as a long-serving public servant. He also served three terms as mayor of Columbia. Steve, a former President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (Afghan American Mayors Association), will be an asset to the American Administration and the American citizens.
Steve, as mayor of Columbia, focused on Main Street economic development and job creation. He also maintained a fair, diverse, and trustworthy law enforcement department. He is well-acquainted with the expectations and demands of Americans.
From Wikipedia:
The White House Office of Public Engagement, a part of the Executive Office of President of the United States, is a unit of White House Office. It was previously known as the White House Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs during President Barack Obama’s administration. Donald Trump restored the White House Office of Public Liaison’s previous name and separated the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. President Joe Biden changed its name to White House Office of Public Engagement, but kept Trump’s independent Intergovernmental Affairs Office.
Trump may have been partially right about some things, but I suppose that’s not the point. Bottoms is a referenced being a voice for African-Americans She headed towards the door. She was also impressed by Harris’s access to Biden.
“I was proud to bring a different voice and a different face to the White House: A voice from the South, an African-American woman in this White House. It was extraordinary,” Bottoms said, adding: “Sitting across from the president in the Oval Office, he knew that whatever my response was, I was speaking for so many people.”
Bottoms was Biden’s advisor and had direct access to Kamala Harris, the president, and Vice President Kamala Harris. She also served as the public face of the administration during various press events. Harris and she hosted a briefing last week for HBCU Student Journalists at the White House.
“I’d never seen anyone like me inside of the White House, and here I stand many, many years later,” Bottoms spoke to the young journalists February 23. “God always has these amazing dreams for us, and we don’t always know when they will happen.”
She will be open to running for a future political office, perhaps as governor in 2026. Stacey Abrams needs to be told.
