Ex-Capitol Hill Cop Says Supervisors Went Silent During Jan. 6 Riot; Donning MAGA Cap Cost Him His Career
Tucker Carlson was told by a fired Capitol Police officer that he helped to evacuate the Capitol in the January 6 Riots. He said his supervisors turned off the radio and told Tucker Carlson about how he donned the red MAGA cap to get through the hostile protesters.
Tarik Johnson stated to Fox News’ host Tuesday in an interview, that his bosses were not prepared for the riot. As the crowd became more hostile, he tried to get permission for the Senate side to be evacuated.
“The person that I thought was going to authorize the evacuation … didn’t do it,” Johnson explained that Johnson called repeatedly over the radio asking for permission to evacuate the Senate side because Johnson had clear sight of a path to an exit route.
He said dispatchers also assisted in calling for an evacuation, but the response from supervisors never came — and eventually, Johnson began escorting the senators to safety on his own. He was once told by fellow officers that they needed help.
Johnson, who said he was fired after being seen wearing the pro-Trump cap, said someone in the crowd put it on his head, and when the person asked for it back, Johnson kept it as an act of self-preservation while he rushed to the aid of his colleagues.
“I figured if I had the hat on, it’d be easier for me to navigate my way through the crowd,” He said. “It was basically self-preservation and de-escalation. And I needed to get up those steps. I couldn’t say what would have happened walking through that crowd without it.”
Johnson said he voted in Joe Biden for the 2020 hotly contested election and that getting his family together was his number one priority. “the members of Congress and their staff to safety.”
Carlson stated that Johnson’s story was supported by surveillance footage.
“A photo emerged of Johnson wearing a MAGA hat outside the Capitol,” Carlson stated. “That picture cost him his career.”
Johnson spoke out about wearing the cap. “sometimes I look at it and I’m like, ‘Thank you, God for blessing me with this hat. And sometimes I’m like, ‘Wow, I wish this hat never came in my life.'”
This interview was conducted after Monday’s program in which Carlson discussed some of the more that 40,000 hours security footage his team had access to. The footage showed that at least in some instances during the incident police seemed passive toward the many people who entered the building. In many instances, the footage showed that the rioters moved through the building with respect and order. However, footage showed that many of the rioters were also breaking windows and scaling walls. They even clashed with officers.
