Ex-Spy Who Discredited Hunter Biden’s Emails Used WaPo Column to Boost Joe Biden
Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell Pushed False Claims About Trump and Hunter Biden’s Laptop
Former CIA deputy director Michael Morell used his position as a contributing columnist for the Washington Post to push false claims about former President Donald Trump and Russian disinformation. Morell even called on Trump’s intelligence chief to resign in his final Post column before concocting a letter with 50 other former intelligence officials that smeared Hunter Biden’s laptop as “disinformation.”
Morell admitted in a recent congressional interview that he organized the letter after a conversation with Biden adviser Tony Blinken, now the secretary of state, to help Biden “win the election.” Morell also had contact with Blinken before publishing his final columns and interviewed him on his podcast. Morell leaned on a deep network of former spies to gather signatures for the letter, including former CIA director Leon Panetta and former Defense Department official Mike Vickers.
Despite the Post penalizing columnists for campaign connections more tenuous than Morell’s, the newspaper has not commented on his actions. Morell’s false claims and partisan actions raise questions about the credibility of the Washington Post and its contributors.
