Medical watchdog urges Endocrine Society to reconsider support for trans medicine on minors.

A Call ‌for Review: Endocrine Society’s Support for Transgender ⁢Medical Interventions

A ‍medical watchdog organization has⁤ called on the Endocrine Society to perform ‍a “systematic review” of its support for ‍medical interventions ‍that seek to change the sex of minors, a letter obtained exclusively by The Daily Wire reveals.

Do No Harm, an organization ⁢that ⁣seeks to “Protect‍ healthcare from a radical, divisive, ⁣and discriminatory ideology,” highlighted growing skepticism of transgender medical interventions across Europe in⁢ a letter to‌ the⁤ Endocrine ⁢Society. ⁢The organization has maintained its support for what it ‍refers to as “gender-affirming care,” which includes the‍ use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormone ⁢therapy, and surgical interventions like double ‌mastectomies.

“We are⁢ confounded by the Society’s avowed certainty of a ⁤favorable benefit-to-risk ratio when it comes ⁣to‌ the medical gender transition of children,” the July⁢ 24th ⁤letter from Do No⁤ Harm‍ reads.

The letter, ⁣signed by‌ Do No Harm’s Chairman Stanley Goldfarb ⁤and Senior Fellow Roy Eappen, went on to state: “There is a steadily ⁣growing international consensus ⁢that the approach endorsed by ⁢the Endocrine Society is misguided and potentially dangerous to children and adolescents.”

It called ‍for the Endocrine Society to update‍ its guidelines ⁢on transgender medical interventions in light of changing policies in the wider Western⁢ world.

“To date ⁣and to our knowledge, the Endocrine Society‌ has not publicly acknowledged the changes happening in Europe,” the⁤ letter adds. “If some ‌of the⁤ most socially liberal countries in the world are wrong about the shaky empirical foundations of pediatric gender medicine, the ⁢Endocrine Society‍ should ⁣say why.”

The‌ letter comes‌ after Eappen⁣ and Do No‍ Harm Research Director Ian Kingsbury attended the⁤ Endocrine Society’s annual meeting and co-authored an ‌ article ‌in the Wall ⁣Street Journal‍ which said many‍ of the society’s members were displeased with the organization’s stance on⁢ transgender medical interventions.

“We found ⁣that endocrinologists are aware of the society’s failings and rue its elevation of transgender activism over medical expertise and patient needs,” the ‌article reads. “Without exception, they acknowledged that the society’s evidence base for pediatric gender transition is weak, at best.”

It⁤ went on to⁣ claim‌ that ‌“Medical professionals are ‌being ‌cowed‍ into silence and coerced into providing treatments they know are dangerous to children.”

Endocrine Society President Stephen R. Hammes shot ⁣back⁢ in a letter also published in the Wall Street Journal. The ⁢brief piece claims that the initial article “ignores‍ scientific evidence and‌ the conclusions reached by the ‍American‍ Medical Association, the American Academy ⁣of Pediatrics and other reputable medical organizations.”

While ⁢the Endocrine Society responded to the op-ed in the‍ Wall⁤ Street Journal, it has not responded to the letter from Do No Harm.

The ⁤Endocrine Society has received funding from at least one⁤ business that profits from medical transitions. The organization received nearly⁣ $100,000 from pharmaceutical company Abbvie from 2019 to 2021.⁢ Abbvie creates Lupron Depot, a drug that has been used to chemically castrate sex offenders and‌ is commonly used off-label⁢ to block puberty ⁢in adolescents who ‍identify ‍as transgender.

Abbvie also produced Androderm, a trans-dermal testosterone patch used for cross-sex hormone therapy by women attempting ‍to become ‌men that has since been discontinued due to a supposed shortage.

Although the ⁣Endocrine Society did not respond to the letter from Do No Harm⁤ and has made no indication that ‍it would reconsider its stance on ‌transgender medical⁢ interventions, the‌ American Academy of Pediatrics recently ⁣announced⁢ that⁣ it would be conducting⁢ a review of the⁤ evidence surrounding “gender-affirming care.”

The Endocrine‍ Society did not respond to a request for comment.
