Exclusive: Tesla’s’s Autopilot has never claimed to be a self-pilot.

LOS ANGELES( Reuters )- After the verdict on Friday, jurors in what appears to be the first trial involving a collision that involved Tesla’s’s Autopilot feature informed Reuters that the automaker had made it clear that driver distraction, not the partially automated driving software, was to blame for the crash.

Tesla Inc. was declared the winner by a state court judge in California on Friday, with claimant Justine Hsu receiving no damages because the automaker’s’s Autopilot feature performed flawlessly.

The jurors’ opinions are significant because Tesla is preparing for a string of additional trials beginning this year involving the semi-automated traveling system, which Chief Executive Elon Musk has assert is safer than individual drivers.

Experts claim that even though the verdict of this trial is not technically binding in those other cases, it helps Tesla and some plaintiffs’ attorneys refine their tactics.

Los Angeles native Hsu filed a lawsuit against the EV manufacturer in 2020, alleging that her Tesla Model S veered off the road while it was on Autopilot and that an vehicle was now deployed” so fiercely it fractured Plaintiff’s’s teeth, knocked out teeth, and caused neural damage to her face.”

Tesla disputed responsibility for the 2019 collision.

Juror Mitchell Vasseur, 63, told Reuters that he and his brother judges felt bad for Hsu after the ruling on Friday, but eventually decided that Autopilot was not at problem.

” Autopilot always acknowledged that he was a self-pilot. It’s’s not a self-driving vehicle, Vasseur claimed. They argued vehemently that a driver must always be careful because it is an automatic assist vehicle.

The Autopilot system, according to Olivia Apsher, a judge foreperson, 31, alerts cars when they are not exercising sufficient control.

It’s’s your car, she said. There are both visible and audible instructions for the driver, letting you know that it is your liability.

The technology is something that’s’s helping you, and we want that statement to be clear, she added, adding that she would love to have Autopilot aspects in her own vehicle. Before they sit behind the wheel and use those features to take control of the car, cars should be aware of this.

Although he is aware that the judge thought his guest was preoccupied, Hsu’s’s attorney Donald Slavik claimed that she was only given the go-ahead to start driving less than a second before the curb strike.

A Tesla member could not be reached for comment right away.

Three Tesla professionals testified during the three-week hearing that took place in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Vasseur claimed that if she had paid closer attention, Hsu’s’s collision would not have happened — a mistake that anyone could get.

He declared,” I personally would never use pilot.” I don’t actually employ boat control.
