EXCLUSIVE: The NRA Reveals Their Multi-Pronged Approach To Opposing Biden’s Gun Control Agenda
The National Rifle Association (NRA) is gearing up for a fight against President Joe Biden and Democrats’ gun control agenda. The organization is taking a multi-pronged approach to opposing the gun control bills and nominations that are coming out of Washington.
The NRA plans to drop $2 million in efforts to oppose Biden’s nominee for Director of the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), David Chipman.
Chipman is a gun control activist and lobbyist who previously worked for Giffords and Everytown for Gun Safety. He also worked on the Branch Davidian trial, which was part of the ATF’s botched raid in Waco, Texas.
“Joe Biden’s nomination of Chipman, a radical gun control lobbyist, shows exactly how far his administration will go to restrict the rights of law-abiding gun owners,” NRA’s Director of Media Relations, Amy Hunter, told The Daily Wire. “Americans should not be forced to live in fear in a political climate in which government leaders are outrightly hostile to a fundamental and guaranteed freedom enshrined in our Bill of Rights.”
“The NRA is all-in on this fight. Our members are engaged, we are fighting and educating lawmakers on the Hill, and we are spreading our message across the airwaves,” Hunter explained. “We will fight Chipman’s nomination and the bad bills that now are in the Senate. And this is just the beginning. We will continue to respond to threats as they come, and we anticipate a very active spring and summer.”
The organization is focusing on states with moderate Democrats and Republicans who can likely be swayed on the gun control front, including West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin (D), Maine Sen. Susan Collins (R), Montana Sen. Jon Tester (D), and Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey (R).
The gun-rights group also dropped $600,000 on digital advertisements in Maine, Arizona, Montana, West Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, and Pennsylvania. Each advertisement encourages voters to contact their senators to voice opposition to Biden’s anti-Second Amendment agenda.

In Maine, West Virginia, and Montana, the NRA dropped $400,000 on a television ad buy. Each ad is targeted to the individual state and senators representing them. Residents are encouraged to contact their senators to voice opposition to Chipman’s nomination.

An additional $500,000 was set aside for mailers urging residents to contact their senators. Those mailers are being deployed in Maine, Arizona, Montana, West Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Pennsylvania, Utah, Alaska, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana.
The NRA is also reaching individual gun owners via targeted text messages, 16 in-person town halls, and multiple digital town halls. The first town hall, in West Virginia, included a visit from State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey (R).
The organization has also zeroed in on state and local initiatives that protect Americans’ Second Amendment rights.
“While we face challenges on the federal level, our hard work at the state level has paid big dividends,” Hunter told The Daily Wire. “So far this year, NRA-backed constitutional carry bills passed in Utah, Montana, Iowa, and Tennessee. For the first time ever a constitutional carry bill has passed the Texas House.”
“We have worked to pass and/or strengthen ‘no duty to retreat’ laws in Arkansas and South Dakota,” she explained. “And, we’ve gone across the country state-by-state passing emergency powers bills that ensure firearms and ammunition retailers will not be closed during a state of emergency — most recently, that passed in Kansas.”
“The NRA is, as always, leading the charge to protect America’s right to self-defense at the federal, state and local level,” Hunter said.
