Wisconsin Democrat Unconcerned About Crime Spreading from Inner City, Disregards Suburbs
Democratic State Senator Slams Suburbanites in Fiery Speech
In a passionate address to the Wisconsin state Senate regarding the proposed state budget, State Senator LaTonya Johnson from Milwaukee didn’t hold back. She began by highlighting the tragic loss of children in her community due to gun violence. However, she then shifted the blame towards suburbanites, accusing them of bringing guns into the city and contributing to the violence.
Senator Johnson pointed out the alarming number of guns stolen from vehicles, including those parked at Park N’ Rides and malls, emphasizing that many of these firearms end up being used in communities like hers. She cited statistics, stating that 841 guns were stolen in 2021 and 737 in 2022, further fueling the problem.
During her speech, Senator Johnson also addressed the recent passing of a 2% sales tax for the city of Milwaukee. She expressed her support for the tax but highlighted the requirement to hire additional fire and police personnel as a condition. While she acknowledged the benefit this would bring to her district, she questioned why these resources were not specifically requested for her area.
“For Milwaukee, the sales tax came with some strings attached. And one of those strings attached came with having to hire additional fire and police. Not necessarily to help protect the individuals who live in Milwaukee … as a condition of the 2% sales tax, we had to hire additional police.”
Senator Johnson also highlighted the spillover of crime into the suburbs, as reported by WisconsinEye. She emphasized the importance of addressing these issues and involving those directly impacted in policy discussions.
As she neared the end of her speech, Senator Johnson passionately expressed her frustration, stating, “It would be nice sometimes, when some of these policies are made, if some of the people that were directly impacted were being brought to the table. And it would be nice sometimes, if when we are talking about these issues, that we think about the conversations that we’re having, because to say that these additional police are needed – what about these babies who are being lost right in their own cities who are born into poverty and then who die before they even get an opportunity to change what they were even born into? What about those moms who have to say goodbye to their kids forever simply because of their zip codes?”
In a controversial conclusion, Senator Johnson exclaimed, “F*** the suburbs, because they don’t know a god-d*** thing about how life is in the city.”
Outrage and Calls for Resignation
Unsurprisingly, Senator Johnson’s remarks sparked outrage and calls for her resignation. An editorial writer from the Wisconsin Law Journal condemned her hateful and uncivil language, urging her to step down from office.
