FAA Says Unintentionally Deleted Files Caused Flight Chaos Earlier in Month
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in red, admitted its staff Thursday “unintentionally deleted files” Key computer system caused the January 11 commercial airline ground-stop, which resulted in more than 11,000 flights being canceled and created chaos for travelers.

The system outage happened on January 10th, but the ground stop was not issued until morning the next day. By then many domestic flights had been grounded or diverted, and thousands more were beginning to realize the chaos ahead.

This outage was the first U.S. national grounding of flights departing after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
