FACT CHECK: Does This Image Show A Trump Rally In 2022?

An image shared on Facebook purportedly shows the size of a crowd at a recent rally for former President Donald Trump in Wisconsin.

Verdict: Misleading

The photo was taken at a Trump rally in 2020, not 2022.

Fact Check:

Trump held a rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin Aug. 5 for gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. During the event, Trump criticized Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos as well as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the outlet reported.

One image shared on Facebook Aug. 6 claims to show a scene from the rally. It shows thousands of people, many wearing red hats, surrounding a platform. “This is from last night in Wisconsin. MASSIVE!” reads the image’s caption. (RELATED: Is Donald Trump Not Refunding Tickets For His Postponed Greensboro, North Carolina Rally?)

The image is not recent. A reverse image search reveals it actually shows a Trump rally that occurred in Wisconsin two years before, in 2020. The same photo was shared by Tim Murtaugh, Trump’s 2020 communications director, on his verified Twitter account Nov. 2, 2020 with a caption that reads, “WISCONSIN!”

The image appears to have been shared by Tim Murtaugh, Trump’s 2020 communications director, on Twitter Nov. 2, 2020.

The image was also shared by Dan Scavino Jr., a former White House aide, on Twitter the same day.”WHAT A NIGHT IN WISCONSIN! Get out and VOTE #MAGA tomorrow!” reads the caption of Scavino Jr.’s tweet. Images taken by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel show that Trump did hold a rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Nov. 2, 2020.

Trump lost Wisconsin by 20,000 votes to President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election, according to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. While Trump and his allies have claimed the Wisconsin election results were tainted by widespread fraud, multiple recounts and audits affirmed Biden’s win in the swing state, The Associated Press reported.
