FACT CHECK: Has Amber Heard Been Arrested For Perjury And Cocaine Possession?
A post shared on Facebook claims actress Amber Heard was arrested by state police for perjury and possession of cocaine.
Verdict: False
There is no evidence Heard has been arrested or charged with any crime. The claim stems from a satirical website.
Fact Check:
A jury found both actor Johnny Depp and Heard liable for defamation in their lawsuits against each other, according to CNN. Depp was awarded $15 million in compensatory and punitive damages while Heard was only awarded $2 million in compensatory damages, the outlet reports.
A Facebook post claims Heard was recently arrested and is facing several criminal charges. (RELATED: Did CNN Report On Johnny Depp And Kyle Rittenhouse Organizing A National Tour Together?)
“Amber Heard has been arrested by state police for multiple criminal offences including perjury and possession of cocaine,” reads the post. “Heard is accused of making multiple false statements on the witness stand during her defamation trial. When police went to her residence to execute the arrest warrant, Heard was found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine and crystal methamphetamine.”
This claim is fabricated. There are no credible news reports suggesting Heard has been arrested for drug possession or for committing perjury during her defamation case. The Circuit Court of Fairfax County, where the defamation trial was heard, has not announced any charges against Heard for perjury.
The Facebook post links to an article written by the Vancouver Times, which identifies itself as “the most trusted source for satire on the West Coast.” The satirical article appears to be the source of the claim.
Check Your Fact has reached out to Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, Heard’s lawyer, for comment and will update this piece if a response is given.
