Family‍ Reacts to⁢ Arrest ⁢of Suspected Gilgo Beach ‍Serial Killer

Family members of ⁤the man suspected⁤ of‍ being the ‌Gilgo Beach serial ⁢killer have reacted⁢ to his arrest, police revealed ‍on ⁣Tuesday.

The 59-year-old⁣ suspect, whom⁢ The Daily⁤ Wire is ⁣not naming ‍in keeping⁤ with a company policy⁢ that seeks to ‌deprive mass killers⁣ of ⁣the notoriety they ⁢often crave,⁣ was arrested last ⁤week⁤ and charged with ⁣the murders of ⁣three women who ⁢disappeared between 2007 and 2010. During an interview ⁤with CBS New York, Suffolk‍ County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said‌ the‌ family was ⁣taken by surprise.

“They were‌ shocked, embarrassed, and ⁤disgusted,” Harrison said. “I don’t ⁢believe they knew‍ about ⁣this ‍double life [the suspect] was living.”

The‍ suspect has a wife ⁢and children, who⁣ were determined to be out ‍of town during the‍ times that Megan Waterman,‌ 22, Melissa ⁢Barthelemy,⁢ 24, and Amber Costello, ‍27,⁢ went ⁤missing. Their bodies ‍were ‌found‌ in the⁤ marsh ⁢at Gilgo Beach ⁢on Long Island,⁣ New York,⁤ in ‍2010.

The‌ man in custody is ‍also suspected ⁣of ⁣killing Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25,⁤ whose⁣ body was found under similar circumstances on the same ⁤day as Costello and Waterman.

All four women worked as sex workers,⁤ and another seven bodies were found in⁣ the area, though ⁣authorities ⁣aren’t currently connecting the suspect with those murders.

Authorities⁢ are⁣ also expanding their search for evidence that ⁣the suspect committed murders in Las‍ Vegas as well as ⁣South‍ Carolina.

“We are aware ‌of [the suspect’s]‌ connection to⁣ Las Vegas,” ‍the Las Vegas ‌Metro Police Department said in a statement on Tuesday,⁣ according to ABC ⁤News. “We ⁤are ⁤currently reviewing ‌our unsolved ‌cases to see if‌ he has any ‌involvement.”

The⁤ suspect‍ also⁢ owns ‍property in Chester, South⁣ Carolina, ‌so authorities are ‌looking ⁤into⁣ whether ‌he‌ is responsible‍ for ‍unsolved‍ murders ⁤there as well.

At a‍ press briefing on Monday, New⁤ York State Police‍ Major Stephen Udice said that a⁢ cold case detective assigned to ⁢the Gilgo Beach ‌murders identified the man ⁣as a ⁣suspect within⁢ a month⁣ of‌ taking the ⁤case.

“This was the⁤ first time⁢ that‌ [the ‍suspect’s] ⁣name⁣ had⁣ come up and‍ the‌ first⁣ time that⁢ he had ⁢been identified as ⁢a potential suspect,” ‍Udice ⁣said, according to the New⁤ York Post. “At ⁢that time, ‌the task⁣ force⁣ worked as a⁤ team to move⁤ forward with⁢ that information,⁢ and ⁣the⁤ investigation ‍ultimately confirmed that [the suspect] was in fact⁢ the individual‍ responsible⁣ for at minimum the⁤ deaths of⁢ three women.”

The search for⁢ the⁢ killer ‌began anew‍ in January⁣ 2022,‍ when⁢ New York Police Department⁤ Chief Rodney Harrison⁣ became⁤ the Suffolk⁤ County police⁣ commissioner.‌ A ‌task force was launched,‌ and‍ a senior ⁤investigator was told to focus only on solving‌ the murders.

The task force ⁤identified the suspect.

The suspect⁣ is⁤ the owner ⁣and founder of⁢ RH Consultants⁤ and Associates, an ‌architecture firm in Midtown⁣ Manhattan. ‌Its website‍ boasts that ⁢American Airlines ⁤and the NYC-DEP Sewerage Treatment as clients.
