Fauci Spins Yarn About How Alleged COVID Lab Outbreak ‘Ain’t A Lab Leak’
Dr. Anthony Fauci has sparked controversy with his latest argument in favor of the natural origins theory for COVID. In a newly published interview with The New York Times, Fauci suggested that a virus breaking out of a lab does not necessarily constitute a “lab leak.” While he entertained the notion that COVID may have emerged from a lab in Wuhan, China, he argued that such a scenario would actually affirm his preferred theory of a “natural occurrence,” perhaps at a nearby wet market.
Fauci’s comments have drawn scrutiny, with some experts pointing out that they don’t align with a declassified report released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in 2021. Despite this, the White House has maintained that there is no “consensus” within the U.S. government about how the COVID pandemic began.
Regardless of the origin of the pandemic, Fauci emphasized the importance of strengthening measures to prevent both natural occurrences and lab leaks. “If it’s a natural occurrence, for goodness’ sake, natural occurrences occur all the time. We should have been doing something about that,” he said. “If it’s a lab leak, then we really should have been much, much more attentive to protocols and training and restrictions.”
