Favored Minnesota GOP candidate to suspend House bid to help Trump campaign

Tayler Rahm, a Republican congressional candidate in Minnesota, is expected to end his campaign for a House seat in the coming days to lead presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s campaign efforts in the state, according to a new report.

Rahm will suspend his campaign bid ahead of the GOP primary in mid-August, the Star-Tribune reported Saturday, just two days before the Republican National Convention in neighboring Wisconsin.

“Tayler Rahm’s impressive win at the district convention reflects his ability to harness the grassroots energy required to send President Trump back to the White House,” Trump campaign senior adviser Brian Hughes said in a statement to the Star-Tribune.

Rahm raised less money than his Republican competitor, former federal prosecutor Joe Teirab, but had been backed by the Republican Party in the race and was favored to win.

The lawyer-turned-political newcomer will switch tasks immediately and joins Blake Paulson, Rep. Tom Emmer’s (R-MN) former district representative, as the state director.

“Tayler and Blake have incredible connections to the base of the Republican Party and will be tremendous assets to President Trump as he works to secure a historic victory in Minnesota in November,” Hughes said.

The Trump camp’s growing focus on Minnesota comes on the back of his visit in May.

Trump plans to open eight field offices across Minnesota between now and November, determined to tilt the battleground state to red come Election Day.

2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton won Minnesota by one percentage point in 2016, while President Joe Biden took it by 7 points in 2020.
