FBI Agent admits delaying Hunter Biden investigation, claim Republicans.
The FBI Never Interviewed Hunter Biden During Investigation, Senior Agent Reveals
A senior agent who worked on the probe has disclosed that the FBI did not interview Hunter Biden as part of its investigation into his business dealings. This revelation was made during the agent’s testimony to the House Oversight Committee. The agent, identified as Joe Gordon by IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, stated that he and Shapley had planned to interview Hunter Biden in Los Angeles on December 8, 2020. However, their plans were thwarted at the last minute when FBI headquarters alerted the Secret Service and the Biden transition team.
This intervention meant that Hunter Biden, who recently pleaded guilty to misdemeanor tax charges, never had to meet face-to-face with law enforcement. The agent testified that such interference from FBI headquarters was unprecedented in his career. These claims align with what Shapley previously told lawmakers in May, where he detailed the Justice Department and U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware’s efforts to impede the investigation into Hunter Biden’s taxes and foreign business dealings. Shapley also revealed that investigators were prohibited from looking into Joe Biden’s involvement in his son’s business affairs.
Gordon’s testimony is significant as it is the first time a Department of Justice employee has supported some of Shapley’s claims. This has fueled Republican criticism that Hunter Biden received preferential treatment from prosecutors. Senior Republican lawmakers have criticized the charges against Hunter Biden, none of which carry jail time, as a “sweetheart deal.”
“The Justice Department’s efforts to cover up for the Bidens reveals a two-tiered system of justice that sickens the American people,” said Rep. James Comer (R., Ky.), the chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
Hunter Biden’s attorneys have attempted to discredit Shapley, labeling him as a disgruntled IRS employee. They have called him biased and aggrieved. Shapley will testify at a public hearing on Wednesday, where he is expected to allege that prosecutors initially approved felony tax charges against Hunter Biden, although they were never filed. He will also highlight the case against Biden for tax evasion related to foreign income as a “slam dunk.” Shapley has claimed that Hunter Biden attempted to evade taxes by deducting payments made to prostitutes and sex clubs.
However, the planned interview with Hunter Biden never took place. Shapley revealed that he and Gordon were instructed to wait in a car outside Biden’s home, but they only received a call from an FBI official stating that Biden’s lawyers refused to allow him to speak with the agents.
