FBI Chief Won’t Dismiss Erroneous Claim That Hunter Biden Laptop Release Was Part of ‘Disinformation’ Campaign
Christopher Wray, FBI Director refused to confirm Thursday that the FBI’s release of Hunter Biden’s computer information was part of an investigation. “disinformation” campaign.
No evidence has emerged to support the claim—initially advanced by Democrats and former intelligence officials—that the release of documents found on Hunter Biden’s laptop was part of a Russian disinformation campaign to smear President Biden. What happens when? pressed Wray repeated his refusal to answer this question at a House Intelligence Committee hearing on Thursday. He cited an ongoing Justice Department investigation.
“I want to be careful about, there is an ongoing investigation that is relevant to that, so I have to be careful of what I can share on that here.” Wray stated.
The question is at the center of a bitter partisan debate over the Biden family’s foreign business dealings. Emails taken from the laptop show details about Biden’s activities in China, Ukraine and other countries. According to documents from the laptop, President Joe Biden may have known about the business dealings of his son. This contradicts his claim.
Biden was reported to have dropped his laptop off at a Delaware repair shop, but the owner never saw him again. John Paul Mac Isaac the shop’s owner has stated that he gave a copy to the FBI, and then to journalists.
Hunter Biden, a U.S. attorney in Delaware, revealed to the Justice Department that he was being investigated for taxes. The U.S. attorneys’ office in Delaware began an investigation into Hunter Biden in 2018, and it probed his foreign business dealings.
