FBI, DHS caution of rising ‘violence threat’ this holiday season
FBI and DHS Warn of Increased ’Threat of Violence’ During Holiday Season
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security issued a joint statement on Tuesday urging Americans to remain vigilant during the Christmas season as they cautioned about the potential for terrorism threats on U.S. soil.
Citing the ongoing war against terror in Israel following Hamas’ October 7 attacks against the country’s citizens, the federal government warned that extremists could be inspired to commit acts of violence within the United States.
The warning did not specify any particular threat or mention the crisis at the southern border. However, the FBI emphasized that gatherings during the holidays could be vulnerable.
The public service announcement stated, “FBI, DHS, and [the National Counterterrorism Center] assess that ongoing tensions related to the conflict between Israel and HAMAS likely heighten the threat of lone actor violence targeting large public gatherings throughout the winter, including holiday-related, faith-based, New Year’s Eve, and First Amendment protected events related to the conflict.”
The FBI also highlighted the vulnerability of Jewish Americans, noting a rise in anti-Semitism since October. However, the agency emphasized that any religious community could be targeted by violence.
The warning also mentioned the increasing number of “hoax” threats, such as those affecting public schools in Maryland, Oregon, and Texas. The FBI stated that these hoaxes are intended to disrupt and intimidate people.
“Calls for violence may increase in the days leading up to the holidays and before other notable events this winter,” the warning said. ”We therefore urge everyone to remain vigilant and to report any threats of violence or suspicious activity to law enforcement.”
Americans who observe anything suspicious should contact their local FBI field office or dial 9-1-1 if they believe there is an immediate threat to life.
The warning aligns with previous statements from FBI Director Christopher Wray, who has consistently warned of a high likelihood of violence on American soil.

Why is there a need for heightened security measures to protect Jewish Americans from targeted violence, especially considering the rise in anti-Semitism
Ncy made it clear that all Americans should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
The joint statement from the FBI and DHS comes at a time when tensions are high both domestically and internationally. The recent conflict between Israel and Hamas has led to increased violence and acts of terrorism in the region. The agencies believe that this ongoing conflict could inspire individuals or groups to carry out similar attacks within the United States. Therefore, it is important for Americans to be aware of the potential threat during the holiday season.
The FBI’s emphasis on large public gatherings during the holidays is a significant concern. The holiday season brings together people from all walks of life, creating opportunities for potential attackers to cause harm. Events such as holiday parades, religious services, and New Year’s Eve celebrations could potentially be targets for violence. It is crucial for event organizers, law enforcement, and members of the public to remain vigilant and take necessary security measures to ensure the safety of all attendees.
In addition, the FBI’s mention of the rise in anti-Semitism further highlights the need for heightened security measures, especially for Jewish Americans. The increase in anti-Semitic incidents since October raises concerns about hate crimes and targeted violence against this community. It is essential for law enforcement agencies to provide adequate protection and support to ensure the safety and well-being of Jewish Americans.
The joint statement serves as a reminder that the threat of violence is persistent and should not be taken lightly. It encourages Americans to stay alert, report any suspicious activity, and take precautionary measures to ensure their safety. The FBI and DHS continue to monitor the situation closely and work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies to counter potential threats and maintain national security.
As the holiday season approaches, it is important for individuals to be cautious and aware of their surroundings. Increased security measures should be implemented at public events and gatherings, and individuals should report any suspicious behavior or activities to authorities. By remaining vigilant and united against acts of violence, the American public can help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday season for everyone.
